Inbox

The Inbox collects open tasks that have neither an area nor a project, so they can be captured quickly and sorted later.

The Inbox lists open tasks without an area and without a project: Tasks without an area or project. It's the place to capture a task quickly and decide later where it belongs.

What it shows

  • Only open tasks. Done and canceled tasks leave the Inbox.
  • Grouped by status: In review, In progress, Todo, Backlog. Within a group, the most urgent priority comes first.
  • The sidebar shows how many open tasks the Inbox holds.

An empty Inbox says Your inbox is clear.

Add to the Inbox

Tasks land in the Inbox when they're created without an area or project:

  • In quick add, leave the area chip on Inbox and the project chip empty (Project).
  • Agents create Inbox tasks with create_task when they leave out both project and area.

Inbox tasks get INB keys, such as INB-3. The key stays when the task moves to an area later.

Sort the Inbox

Open a task and give it a place in the details panel:

  • Project: puts the task in a project and in the project's area.
  • Area: puts it directly in an area, without a project.

The task then leaves the Inbox. While sorting, it's a good moment to set a priority, a planned day or a due date, and an estimate, or to cancel what won't be done.

An agent can triage the Inbox too: the pacedmind-review skill goes through it in small batches and suggests a place and dates for each task. See Agent skills.
