Search and the command menu

Find tasks by key or title, jump to projects and pages, and create a task, all from the command menu.

The command menu finds tasks and projects and goes to the main pages, from the keyboard.

Open it

  • Press Ctrl+K anywhere (Cmd+K on a Mac keyboard). The same keys close it again.
  • Select Search at the top of the sidebar.

What it finds

Type in Search tasks, projects and pages…. The list updates as you type:

EntryShownOpens
New taskWhen the text matches new task or create, and with an empty searchQuick add
Go to a pagePages whose name matches: Today, Inbox, Upcoming, Calendar, Week, Timeline, Roadmap, Sessions, Computers, SettingsThat page
ProjectsProjects whose name contains the textThe project's task list
TasksUp to 12 tasks whose key or title contains the text, with their status icon and keyThe task's list, with the task open

Matching ignores letter case and finds the text anywhere in a key or title. A task key, such as wrk-12, lists that task together with keys that start the same way, such as WRK-120, and titles that contain the text.

When nothing matches, the menu says No matches. Try a task key like DEV-21.

Keys

↑ ↓Move through the entries.
EnterOpen the highlighted entry.
EscClose the menu.

A task opened from the menu shows in its project's list, its area's list, or the Inbox, with the details panel open. A finished task outside any area opens the Inbox without its details, because the Inbox lists only open tasks.

Other ways to find tasks

  • Area and project pages list all their tasks by status. See Projects.
  • The Calendar's No date panel lists open tasks without any date. See Calendar: month.
  • Agents search with list_tasks, which filters by project, area, status, priority, label, words, dates, overdue and unscheduled tasks. See Task tools.
