Computers

Computer tools: inspect computers and displays, show floating task notes, and ask a computer to use a folder.

Agent sessions run on the user's computers, the ones with the PacedMind desktop app, and each computer keeps its own folders and settings. These tools show an agent the computers, display floating task notes and let it ask a computer for a folder. Starting a session on one is start_session with computer.

list_task_note_displays

Read-only. Allowed without asking.

Lists connected displays on a computer running PacedMind: their labels, ids, usable dimensions, positions, primary display, note capacity and remembered choice. It also shows the results of recent requests to open notes. A launched agent session sees receipts only for its own task.

The optional computer is a name or id from list_computers. Without it, the local connection uses this computer; PacedMind Cloud uses the only computer currently reporting its displays. With several available computers, ask the user which one.

With multiple displays and no remembered choice, ask which display to use and whether to always use it for task notes on that computer. If the remembered display is disconnected, ask again. Display ids come from this tool; the numbered list helps the user choose.

show_task_note

Shows a desktop window. Only when the user asks for task notes.

Opens one task in an independent, always-on-top window and arranges the notes on the selected display without overlap. An already open task reuses its window. Call once per task. A session launched by PacedMind can show only its own task. This does not start a session or change the task's status.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
taskstringyesTask key.
computerstringnoAs in list_task_note_displays.
displaystringfor an explicit choiceDisplay id returned by list_task_note_displays.
rememberbooleanwith displayThe user's answer: true saves the choice on that computer; false uses it once and leaves an existing preference unchanged.

Omit both display and remember to use a remembered choice or the only connected display. With several displays and no remembered choice, the tool returns the choices without opening a note. It also refuses an explicit display until the agent passes the user's answer about remembering it. Preferences are separate for each computer and planner.

The reply says queued, with a request id. Check list_task_note_displays for opened or the reason it failed; queued does not mean it has appeared yet. Requests expire after two minutes and are delivered once. If the selected screen is disconnected or full, ask for another display or for a note to be closed. The choice is saved only after a note opens successfully. Cloud requests require established computer access, as other computer tools do.

list_computers

Read-only. Allowed without asking.

The user's computers: for each, whether it's online or when it was last seen, which one is the default and which one is this computer, what it has of Claude Code and Codex, and what it does with a session an agent asks it for. The user changes these in PacedMind on each computer.

No parameters.

Each computer starts with a line of its name and id, its system, this computer or whether it's online (last seen 3 h ago when not), default for the default one, and its PacedMind version. Below it:

  • what it does with a session the agent asks for:
    • this computer: Sessions you ask for here wait for the user to allow them in PacedMind on this computer.
    • From elsewhere set to Refuse: Refuses sessions asked for from elsewhere.
    • Two-factor code on: Takes sessions from elsewhere only with the user's two-factor code, so you can't ask it: the user starts them there, or switches its Two-factor code off in PacedMind on that computer (Settings → General).
    • Two-factor code off, with Start: Starts the sessions you ask for right away (one in the agent's cloud waits for the user there).
    • Two-factor code off, with Ask me: Asks the user there before a session you ask for starts.
  • for another computer, its settings in a few words, such as From elsewhere: Ask me, with a two-factor code.;
  • for Claude Code and Codex, what it found: the command-line tool's version and whether it's signed in, the desktop app, its MCP servers, the claude.ai connectors, plugins and skills, or not found.

For example:

DESKTOP-1 (id 2f6c1d0e-8a57-4b1e-9f3a-0c4d2e6b8a91) · Windows · this computer · default · PacedMind 0.1.0
- Sessions you ask for here wait for the user to allow them in PacedMind on this computer.
- Claude Code: CLI 2.1.282, signed in (claude.ai, max) · Claude app 1.4 · MCP servers: github, playwright · claude.ai connectors: Gmail
- Codex: CLI 0.150.0, signed in (chatgpt) · no other MCP servers

Studio Mac (id 9b3e7f21-5c0a-4d68-a1e2-7f8d9c0b1a24) · macOS · last seen 3 h ago · PacedMind 0.1.0
- Asks the user there before a session you ask for starts.
- From elsewhere: Ask me, without a code.
- Claude Code: CLI 2.1.282, signed in (claude.ai, pro) · MCP servers: github
- Codex: not found

Without an account, there's only this computer, and the result starts with Without an account there's only this computer. With none signed in: None of the user's computers is signed in to PacedMind yet. Sessions run on a computer with the PacedMind desktop app.

set_folder

Changes data. Agents ask the user first.

Asks to use a folder on one of the user's computers for a project (its folder), an area (its workspace, which the area's projects without a folder of their own share) or a task (its own folder): where agent sessions for it start on that computer. Folders are each computer's own settings, so the tool only asks: the user allows it in PacedMind on that computer, which first checks that the folder is there. Agents use it only when the user asks, with the folder's absolute path on that computer.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
projectstringone of these threeThe project's id or name.
areastringThe area's id, name or key: the folder becomes its workspace.
taskstringThe task key: the folder becomes the task's own.
folderstringyesThe folder's absolute path on that computer, up to 1000 characters.
computerstringnoThe computer's name or id, from list_computers. Without it, this computer; on PacedMind Cloud's server, the only computer signed in.

Name exactly one of project, area and task (Name one of project, area or task.).

On this computer, PacedMind checks the folder at once. A folder that can't be one there is refused with the reason, such as C:\code\ap can't be a folder on this computer: That folder doesn't exist. Otherwise PacedMind's window shows a card, Use a folder on this computer?, with Refuse and Use it, and a notification, Use a folder for Organizer app?. The request waits 30 minutes. It returns:

Asked the user to use C:\code\app for the project Organizer app on this computer: PacedMind shows it in its window, and sets it once they allow it (within 30 minutes). Tell the user to look at PacedMind; don't ask again.

On another computer, the request waits up to a day for that computer, which checks the folder once it sees the request and then shows the same card. It returns:

Asked Studio Mac to use /Users/anna/code/app for the project Organizer app. It waits for the user to allow it in PacedMind on Studio Mac (up to a day). That computer checks the folder is there first. Tell the user; don't ask again.

It adds ; Studio Mac hasn't been online in the last few minutes when that computer isn't online. A newer request for the same project, area or task replaces one still waiting. Without an account there's only this computer: Without an account there's only this computer.

Use it sets the folder as choosing it in PacedMind would, after checking it again (Organizer app uses C:\code\app here now). Refuse drops the request. See Where a session works.
